Two SIS students, Yihan Liu from Grade 10 and Aika Ashida from Grade 11, could be representing Sweden in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad. This puts them among the top young female mathematicians in the country!
Both students are part of a select group of only 15 that has been invited to a three-day training camp in Göteborg in February. Following that, the final selection for the Swedish European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad Team will take place.
For Aika, this confirms a significant comeback in her maths skills.'I sort of lost interest a bit during Middle School, and saw my grades drop. That was a bit discouraging. But I had the motivation to work to improve.' She credits her father as a big influence in making this happen, and of course, the teachers at SIS.
While Aika is entering an individual competition for the first time, Yihan has previous experience as reported back in our November '25 Dispatch. 'I feel comfortable with the competition' she tells us, 'I think going to the training camp will be a really fun experience.'
