Grade 3 students took advantage of some great Spring weather and the proximity of one of Stockholm's many parks to enjoy an outdoor maths lesson. In these fabulous surroundings, they set to work applying practical maths skills to their environment.
The students were tasked with lining up sticks that are as close to a meter in length as possible, finding a tree with a circumference that's within 5 cm of 2 meters, and filling bags of sand to weigh as close to 1kg as possible. They also took a "forest bath" - closing our eyes and listening to the sounds we hear for five minutes.
These simple tasks sow the seeds of understanding measuring, quantifying, and other maths skills, while the fresh air and surrounding created a lively and upbeat mood for everyone in the class.
