A group of grade 6 students and their teachers left the city behind recently to immerse themselves in the natural world. The Grade 6 Outdoor Skills 1 group enjoyed a fantastic autumn hike in Nacka Nature Reserve, covering 10 km of beautiful forest trails, including some technical and challenging terrain. Along the way, students practised taking time to appreciate the natural world around them while strengthening friendships and developing their teamwork skills.
One of the day’s biggest challenges was getting a fire going in wet conditions, which required patience, persistence, and collaboration. Their efforts were well rewarded, with burgers and sausages cooked over the fire! The students also showed kindness and generosity, sharing tastes of their cooked lunches with one another.
The group returned tired but happy, with a wonderful sense of achievement after a day of adventure, learning, and connection in nature.
