It’s not only our students who are continually learning at SIS. Our teachers and teaching assistants are constantly developing their practice, exploring new resources, keeping up with the latest ideas in education, and looking for better ways to engage and support every student.
Our regular professional development (PD) sessions give staff the opportunity to learn from one another, share experiences, and consider how new approaches can make a real difference in the classroom. The ultimate purpose is simple: to help our students learn more effectively, confidently, and enjoyably.
Develop Your Tech Self was the theme of a recent in-service day in the Primary School. Teachers and teaching assistants led workshops for their colleagues, exploring ways technology can be used to enrich learning and give students new ways to create, collaborate, and demonstrate their understanding.
Some sessions focused on new features in apps already used at SIS, including Seesaw, BrainPOP, Mathletics and Raz-Kids. Others explored how students can use iMovie to develop and present their learning, as well as how technology can support teachers in planning engaging and purposeful lessons.
The day concluded with training from our Britannica representative, who demonstrated how this important research tool can be used to differentiate learning for students with different reading levels and language backgrounds.
Professional development like this is an important part of delivering the best possible learning experience for our students. By continuing to develop their own knowledge and skills, our staff are better equipped to respond to different learning needs, introduce new possibilities into the classroom, and ensure that technology is used not simply because it is available, but because it genuinely helps students learn.
At SIS, when our teachers learn, our students benefit.
