Student Life |
It’s not just the teachers at SIS who support our students and help them achieve their objectives. Every department is committed to sharing experience and expertise so that students can draw upon the broad skill sets in the School to make a success of their projects. This reaches beyond the purely academic to practical advice on a range of topics.
The SIS First Tech Challenge (FTC) team – going by the name Frostbite Robotics – took advantage of this recently, to get advice on the topic of fundraising. The SIS team is the only Scandinavian representative taking part in the FTC – a high-quality international competition that aims to inspire the current generation of students to enhance their knowledge in technology and critical thinking.
SIS Advancement Director, Emma Jones, met with team members to give them a crash course in fundraising. The team of ten has to raise funds to cover travel and accommodation expenses to attend the event, which will be held in the Benelux countries. Emma guided them through the process of finding and researching likely sources of funding, developing a benefits proposition for potential sponsors, and formulating messages to be used in approaching prospective donors.
As well as tech skills, FTC requires students to develop other capabilities. As part of the process, students will have to set a mission statement, document their strategy, and create a financial plan, as well as work to promote STEM education in their local environment.
‘I so enjoyed sharing thoughts with the students and passing on advice to help them with their fundraising challenge. To connect with them like this is a wonderful reminder of what we are working for as a school, and to feel their enthusiasm, energy, and commitment to the FTC is quite uplifting,’ said Emma.
Frostbite Robotics need to raise 60-70,000 SEK in order to participate in the event in December or January (the team has not yet been allotted its specific time slot). If you or your company would like to sponsor the team, in whole or in part, please reach out to frostbite.robotics@intsch.se to discuss possibilities and learn about the exposure for your brand through supporting the team.
