May 11 saw the end of a four-day marathon of music recitals. But while marathons tend to be gruelling and demanding, this one was immensely enjoyable and gratifying as our students showed off their musical talents.
There were about 140 performers over the four sessions – that’s about 1 in every 5 of our student body. From beginners barely tall enough to be seen over the piano, to older accomplished players relishing playing before an audience, all our students showed their enjoyment in making music. Parents in the audience relished the occasion, supporting their own children and enthusiastically applauding every performer.
Conducting the proceedings was our Music Coordinator, Kimberley Akester, whose enthusiasm and dedication to the event is unsurpassed. She, together with our music teachers and individual instrument tutors, nurture and encourage talent, all of which was on display.
Music always figures prominently in life at SIS, and these recitals confirm that it will continue to flourish.
