Sustainable Poetry is a global co-creation project that raises the voices of children and young adults for a sustainable future. Every year, an anthology of poems is produced from entries submitted to the competition, and a select number of winners in various categories are chosen. Once again, an SIS student has had work selected.
This year's theme was Love for a Sustainable Future, and Victoria, in Grade 11, had her work commended. She was presented with a diploma at the opening of the exhibition.
Her composition is on display with other selected students' work at the nearby Folkets Hus, and will remain on display in the Café until mid April, placing SIS students' creativity in front of a wider audience. The costs of mounting and presenting the display were met by an award from the SIS Spirit Fund. The Fund is there to provide opportunities like this that emphasise academic excellence and student experience, as well as supporting innovation and campus development.
If you would like to view the exhibition there is an added incentive to visit Folkets Hus while the work is on display - mention 'Poetry' when you order and you will get 15% off food orders in the café.
Victoria's poem was written in French. We present it hear with an English translation alongside.

Pourquoi?
mais nous la détruisons encore. Qu’avons nous fait? |
What have we done?
I thought that we loved our planet. I thought that we protected our planet.
We destroy our habitat and the habitat of animals. The planet screams, but we do not listen. The sea is drowning in oil. Five years ago, the sea was the place of my dreams. Now, it is a black hole.
The forests are more and more red. There is darkness all around us. Why?
yet we destroy her still. What have we done? |
