AI @ SIS

With AI to the front of everyone's mind, two coming events are designed to get SIS families involved and keep them informed about its use in the School

AI in education is here, and the pace of integration is rapid. At SIS we are embracing AI with care and vigilance rather than just fast-tracking its use. We are focused on ensuring our students are up-to-date on the latest technologies, while strengthening their critical thinking, creativity, digital literacy, and safety practice – so they approach AI with an informed awareness.

With these goals in mind, SIS has been working to develop comprehensive guidelines and policies around the use of AI at school that are based on research, thoughtful integration, and practical, beneficial solutions for all our families in this exciting, and often challenging, educational environment.

In February, SIS families will get a chance to hear about the School’s plans in events open to the whole community.

On Wednesday, 4 Feb at the SPC General Meeting, Eric Beck, SIS Head of Learning, and Sandra Loureiro, SIS Head of Technology, will lead a discussion focusing on the vision SIS has for AI in our learning environment. They will share progress on the "Path to Future Focused Learning" strand of the SIS Strategic Plan, and include context for work SIS is doing with Eblana Learning. It is important to have input from the parent community as we work towards a goal to "Leverage AI to enhance learning, while considering ethical implications and promoting responsible use".

This is an opportunity to bring up your ideas, raise concerns, provide input, and ask questions around the use of AI in education. RSVP for this event on the SPC Classlist Calendar Invite.

On Wednesday, 18 Feb, the School will present updated policies and procedures developed in partnership with Rita Bateson of Eblana Learning, and with input from teachers, students, parents and both the senior and educational leadership teams. A goal of this evening is for attendees to develop an understanding of how these policies and procedures are being implemented to ensure students (and parents) are AI-informed, AI-safe, and AI-empowered. A specific focus will be policies and procedures related to academic integrity, and promoting productive struggle as part of learning.
