On Friday, March 28th, 28 girls (MYP 5) from our school participated in IGE Day (Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day). This is a national event organized by Womengineer that aims to inspire girls to explore careers in engineering and technology.

Sounds fun, right! Yes, you are absolutely correct. It was not only a fun day for the students, but also a day where students had the opportunity to hear directly from female engineers who work collaboratively to bring changes in the world. While listening to the lectures from the female engineers, our students could identify key ATL skills such as communicating effectively with others in the group, exchanging ideas and thoughts, self-management skills to meet deadlines and successful accomplishment of tasks, as well as creative thinking skills in generating novel ideas and considering new perspectives.

11 students visited Atlas Copco, a global industrial company known for developing innovative tools, compressors, and industrial solutions. During their visit, the students created technical drawings, used virtual reality tools, and searched for pressure leaks in the compressor chamber in a 20m deep mine environment. A cool experience!

Elsewhere, 17 students spent a day at Xylem, a leading global water technology company that works to solve water-related challenges around the world. Xylem’s innovations stand at the forefront of the water transportation systems. In addition to developing sustainable water management systems in various parts of the world, their powerful pump system transports water to Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world situated in Dubai as well as the world trade center memorial in New York.

The students toured Xylem’s advanced water laboratories and got to hear from experienced engineers about the challenges they face in everyday work. Students also carried out hands-on experiments focused on water purification, sustainability, and the science behind the purified water. Knowledge and fun at the same time!

It was a fun, inspiring and educational experience. The students learned more about engineering and discovered many exciting opportunities in science and technology.
