Recitals to charm and impress

A record number of students took part in this year's end-of-year music recitals

What might be the collective noun for music recitals? A note of recitals? A chord of recitals? A harmony of recitals? All sound appealing, but if you ask the organiser of our end-of-year showcase, a frazzle of recitals, or a commitment of recitals, might be more appropriate.

Our Extra-curricular Music Coordinator, Kimberley Akester, assembled a record number of students for this year's programme. No fewer than 175 singers and instrumentalists played before a live audience of parents and teachers in the auditorium at Johannesgatan over four days. Supported by other teachers and the specialist instrument teachers, they played everything from Adele to Vivaldi and from Taylor Swift to Beethoven.

As the students charmed the audience with their performances, they disguised the weeks of hard work spent preparing and rehearsing their pieces, and the friendly and relaxed atmosphere concealed a mountain of technical, musical, and logistical work underpinning the events. It was thrilling for the students to perform, a proud moment for parents, and a deeply satisfying occasion for the teachers to see the students' talent emerge.

Long may it continue to grow and be an important date in the SIS calendar.
