Beyond their dedication to teaching, many SIS faculty members channel their creativity into other pursuits—and MYP Visual Art and Media Arts teacher, Jamie Snell, is a wonderful example. When he isn’t sparking inspiration in the classroom, Jamie is immersed in his own artistic practice, painting and sculpting with the same passion he brings to his students.
Through the end of September, you can experience his work firsthand at an exhibition in Gamla Stan, hosted at Bacchi Syre Café (Järntorgsgatan 5). The show highlights some of Jamie’s latest oil paintings, where everyday objects—a crumpled soda can, the glow of a helium balloon—are transformed into striking studies of beauty, captured with vivid colour and meticulous detail.
Jamie’s signature style sets realistic subjects against flat, graphic fields of colour, creating a bold tension between depth and surface. Alongside his paintings, he also presents sculptural wall pieces, such as hand-formed clay balloons that explore themes of buoyancy, weight, and permanence.
His practice extends further into black-and-white portraiture, where careful use of light and shadow reveals subtle moods and character, offering a more introspective counterpoint to his vibrant still lifes.
All works on display are available for purchase. To inquire or follow Jamie’s creative journey, visit his Instagram: jamie_snell@boldartisanhub.
The exhibition runs until September 30th
