Erasmus+ is showing off

Our Erasmus+ crew welcomed visitors from France and showed off their pride in their city as they gave a whirlwind tour of Stockholm's attractions, traditions, and culture

What do you show off to visitors when they come to Stockholm? For the recent visit by French students from Réunion as part of an Erasmus+ mobility, the challenge was what to leave out.

The few days of the visit were jam-packed with activities, sites of interest, cultural experiences, and no small amount of fika.

The architectural character of the city, and in particular gamla stan, was complemented by views of the impressive waterfront from duck boats and commuter services. These took our visitors to Skansen and Gröna Lund, and of course, the Vasa Museum – and at the other end of the historical timeline – the ABBA Museum.

Though Spring is here, SIS offered a flavour of the Nordic climate and the Swedish love of outdoor life. Curling gave our visitors the chance to try out winter sports, while gathering round a hot grill for a feast of korv och bröd.

Alongside all of this, classes in SIS introduced the students to Swedish traditions and saw them designing their own dalahäst and turning their hands to making Chokladbollar, as well as discovering more about Swedish culture.

The visit was a reminder of how our students benefit when they go on an Erasmus+ mobility to other countries, and experience the same level of hospitality and learning. SIS is indebted to Anneli Thompson and other members of staff who work so tirelessly to make these visits a success, and provide a warm welcome to the students, and to the members of the parent community who host visiting students and conjure up fika at the drop of a hat!
