Monday, 18 August, saw the kick-off of another year at SIS. It promises to be one of fun, friendship, and achievement.
As term starts, the School has just over 800 students enrolled, arriving at SIS from locations all around the globe. The international quality of the School was impossible to miss. Flags adorned the aula at Norra Latin and the auditorium at Johannesgatan, winding around and criss-crossing the ceiling.
Oggi was there too, returned from his summer migration and keen to mingle with all the new boys and girls. They all seemed keen to capture a moment and a memory of their first day at SIS. And Oggi had a present for our younger students, giving them crayons and a colouring book featuring some of his friends!
The welcome day is designed to introduce students to their new surroundings, and for them to meet the teachers who will be so influential in the academic terms coming up. It's also the first chance in many cases for students to meet each other, to find new friends, share their story, and delve into common interests.
Students and their families could also explore many of the other activities on offer in the School, such as music and sports. They also had a chance to meet the School's counsellors, discover some of the language and learning support options available, and ask questions of the leadership teams and the admissions officers, all keen to make their introduction to SIS as smooth as possible.
Representatives from the SIS Parent Community (SPC) were also out in force, sharing their plans for an energetic and exciting year of events, to socialise, provide student experiences, and support the School.
Community is key at SIS, and the start of the year has set a wonderful benchmark for the coming months as we work together to give our students the very best learning environment, where they can thrive in friendly, enjoyable, and caring surroundings. Now, it's down to the hard work—and play.
